Last week I saw this idea and this idea. Which inspired me to make this:
Cool, huh. I cut out a bunch of leaves from an old textbook and brown kraft paper.
Max joined in the fun and helped me paint the leaves. Before he got started, we talked about what color autumn leaves are (in Houston most leaves turn from green to brown). Then I looked over and he was painting a leaf blue! I’ll admit it: I was bothered. Leaves are NOT blue.
So I asked him why he was painting it blue and he said, “I think some leaves wish they were blue.” Can’t argue with that.
After the paint was dry, I strung twine through the hooks in our mantle (for hanging the stockings at Christmas) and hot glued the leaves on to the twine.
I’m thinking this could make a great wreath too…

Love it! Good for you to go with the blue leaves.
love the garlands! and you should be excited that he wants there to be blue leaves. it means he hasn’t been jaded by real life yet. he is creative! I hated seeing my little brother go from inventing his own realities, to trying to depict the realities everyone else depicted in their artwork (he’s 11 now). anyway, the announcements are darling and so is your baby boy!!
I just saw your comment on my rainbow cake-on-a-stick post and wanted to come check out your blog. I’m so glad I did! My 2-year-old just painted several pages worth of fall colored papers. I’ve been wanting to cut them into leaves but didn’t know what to do with them once I did. A fall garland?! Perfect!
Thanks for a great idea!
